Disposable Vapes To Be Banned In UK From June 2025
News has broken of the official date for when disposable vapes are going to be banned in England.

The Timeline Of Events Leading To The Ban
It was around this time last year that former PM Rishi Sunak announced he and his Government's plans to launch the "Stopping The Start" campaign, which was aimed at stopping a new generation of nicotine addicts from forming and involved raising the legal smoking age by one year every year as well as restricting the sale and supply of disposable vapes in the UK to stop the appeal of them being tempting to underage users.
However, plans were thrown into turmoil when a sudden
Labour's manifesto that was made public prior to the election taking place did indeed show the same intent from them to bring in legislation regarding raising the legal smoking age, as well as banning disposable vapes. And there was also a mention of restricting vape flavours and packaging eventually. But that was as far as it got, and it all went a bit quiet on the disposable vape ban front, until this week when news broke of a confirmed date for when disposable vapes are being banned in the UK.
When Are Disposable Vapes Being Banned?
The date set for when the sale and supply of disposable vapes are to be banned in the UK is June 1st 2025, a mere 8 months away which in the grand scheme of things, isn't that far away! And the news of this ban will be welcome news to the 77% of the respondents in the consultation period that were for a disposable vape ban.
It's also worth noting that as of today, 24th October 2024, this is the beginning of the sell through date for retailers to sell through remaining stock prior to June 1st 2025, as after this date, it will be illegal to sell them.
Comparing this to other countries which have banned disposable vapes from sale, there's normally a sell through period after the date which was announced, so it's slightly different for us here in the UK for the period to now be before the date of when the ban comes in to effect.
We wrote recently about Scotland announcing they're banning disposable vapes from sale as of April 1st 2025, so it comes as no surprise that this news from our Government here in England are following suit.
Why Are Disposables Being Banned?
There are a couple of driving forces behind disposables being banned in the UK, and we'll explain them in depth below.
The primary reason is what we've mentioned above, and that is to remove them from the shelves in shops in the UK so to eliminate any temptation for underage users to get hold of them and use them.
Studies from Action on Smoking and Health showed that disposable vape use amongst 11-17 year olds was rife, with percentage of use multiplying by over 7 times in 2022 compared to the year prior. Despite it starting to slow down in more recent years, there's still a high volume of underage children using disposables which is far from ideal.
The other reason for wanting to ban disposable is because of the detrimental impact which they are having on our envrionment. Last year, it was estimated that a dispsosable vape was thrown away every second of the day, and over 5 million were either thrown away or littered in the UK which is an incredible amount more than it was prior to disposables really booming in popularity.
As disposable vapes are not recyclable, despite being made out of plastic, this means that there are millions being dumped into landfill, and this is causing enormous waste issues, especially of the lithium which are stored in the batteries that power these brightly coloured devices.
How You Can Still Vape After Disposables Are Banned

Will The Ban Cause More Black Market Sales Of Disposables?
Unfortunately, prohibition on any consumer product does always cause a spike in sales on the black market, and there's concerns that disposable vapes are the next big thing to thrive on the black market after the ban of retail sales has come into effect.
There's always a chance that people are going to capatilise on the situation at hand, and offer disposable vapes through illicit channels, but we would highly advise against purchasing disposable vapes from anyone after the ban comes into effect.
There has already been an upsurge in illicit vapes being sold at retail and these illicit products normally do not comply with rules and more often than not have a higher nicotine strength than allowed, ingredients, or packaging. And because tax will generally not be paid on them, they can be cheaper than legitimate products – undermining the efforts of companies which do comply with the law.

We wanted to round off this blog by answering what we think some of the most frequently asked questions will be about the upcoming disposable vape ban to help put your mind at ease.
Will The Ban Affect Disposable Vape Brands Like Elf Bar, Elux, Lost Mary & SKE Crystal?
All the information we have to-date suggests that any single-use vape kit, regardless of brand, will be captured within the ban. The UK government currently defines a disposable vape as a single-use vape that is not refillable or rechargeable. Amidst concerns that disposable brands like Elf Bar, Lost Mary etc will attempt to circumvent the ban by adding charge ports or other features to single-use kits, this definition is under review and may be expanded to insist that vape kits must have removable pods or coils.
Disposable brands have already begun introducing variants of their devices designed to avoid restriction such as the ELFBAR Pod kit, which features interchangeable e-liquid containers in place of a traditional refillable pod design. This means that while the single-use vape kits we are used to seeing may disappear from shelves, we have far from seen the last of the brands behind them.
Will It Be Illegal To Use Disposables After The Ban?
Whilst disposable vapes are being banned from sale, there is nothing to state that it will be illegal or an offence to still use disposable vapes after the ban has come into force. You just won't be able to buy disposables from shops or online legally after June 1st 2025
Are Big Puff Disposables Being Banned?
Big puff disposable vapes, like the IVG6000, are larger disposable vapes which use multiple prefilled pods housed inside one device to offer "more vape juice for your money" as well as being rechargeable unlike a standard disposable vape. We speculate that these will also be banned from sale alongside standard disposables, because it is still classed as a disposable vape.
Are Vape Flavours Being Banned?
There was talk in the original legislations of a restriction being implemented on vape juice flavours that are sold in 10ml bottles. In this announcement confirming the date, nothing was mentioned about a vape juice flavour restrcition being initiated alongside the disposable vape ban. Whilst this isn't to say that it won't happen in future, it doesn't seem that there are any plans to bring this in alongside the ban next June.
